Support Groups

Support groups are an excellent complement to medical care. They provide education and foster emotions that positively influence the fight against illness.

 

Better Breather's Club

This group provides information and resources for individuals living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) by teaching them and their families ways to better live with lung disease. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month from 1:30 pm to 3 pm at Rex Wellness Center of Raleigh. For more information, call (919) 784-1380.

Cancer Nutrition Workshop
When beginning treatment for cancer, nutrition becomes even more important. Please join this group to learn more about good nutritional choices during each treatment.
Class days and times are: The first and third Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am and the second Wednesday of each month at 5:00 pm. Classes meet in the Rex Cancer Center Resource Room.

Crohn's and Colitis Support Group (Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America- CCFA)
This group meets monthly to provide information and support to individuals with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and their caregivers. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month

KidsCan!
Cancer can impact the entire family - especially children. KidsCan!, a support group program sponsored by the Torry Holt Foundation, is specifically designed for children ages 6-18 to help them understand their parent or loved ones' cancer. Please call (919) 784-6455 for more information.

Mended Hearts, Raleigh Chapter

A national cardiovascular group affiliated with the American Heart Association offering help, encouragement, and support to heart patients and families. Meets 3rd Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Rex Wellness Center of Raleigh. Call (919) 784-3756 for more information.

This daytime support group provides those experiencing metastatic or advanced

Moms Supporting Moms

Moms Supporting Moms is a support group for women who are experiencing anxiety, depression and/or adjustment difficulties related to childbirth and new motherhood. All meetings are led by experienced counselors in postpartum depression. Encouragement, hope and support are shared in a safe, positive atmosphere and moms are encouraged to share their feelings and experiences.

Triangle Ostomy Association
The Triangle Ostomy Association, Serving the Ostomy and J-Pouch Community, is a support group for people who have had or will have ostomy surgery (colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy or ileoanal pouch procedures) and their families, offering mutual aid and moral support from those who have experienced this type of surgery. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month, except July and August, at 7:30 PM in the Surgical Waiting Room just off the Main Entrance at Rex Hospital. This forum for men and their partners meets monthly to provide up-to-date prostate cancer information and support to those whose lives have been affected by prostate cancer. Please call (919) 539-7868 for more information.

Raleigh Arthritis/FM/CFIDS Support Group

This group is for adults with any of the more than 100 types of Arthritis including Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This groups the second Monday of each month in the Rex Hospital Cancer Center Auditorium. Each meeting features a guest speaker. Family and friend are also welcome to join group participants.
