UNC Health Rex Engages The Blood Connection
After more than five decades of providing its own blood services, UNC Health Rex will engage The Blood Connection (TBC), another not-for-profit community-based blood center, to supply blood and blood products to UNC Health Rex patients who need them beginning in January 2018.
TBC intends to supplement its existing donor operations in the community for the time being in the same location as Rex Blood Services’ current center on Blue Ridge Road.
TBC has another donation facility on Glenwood Avenue near Crabtree Valley Mall, and four bloodmobiles to support blood collection in our community. The Blood Connection will ensure that a safe, adequate blood supply continues to be readily available for patients at UNC Health Rex and in the community.Content.
The Blood Connection was founded in 1962 and is among the largest independently managed, non-profit community blood centers. Its model and mission are closely aligned with Rex Blood Services. They adhere to the same high-quality standards as Rex Blood Services and are accredited by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). The Blood Connection currently provides blood products and services for other local Triangle hospitals, as well as 32 hospitals across North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
We have a deep commitment to our community and the patients and donors we serve. The Blood Connection echoes that same commitment and has a track record of providing excellent customer service to donors. Please know that your donated blood will continue to fuel the needs of our patients’ right here at UNC Health Rex and in our community.
There is no substitute for human blood. Thank you for continuing to give the gift of life.
