UNC Health Rex has made the difficult decision to close our Wellness Center in Wakefield on November 15, 2024.
We explored every possible option for this site, including partnerships and finding new ways to boost enrollment. However, the Wakefield Wellness Center never fully recovered from the pandemic and we’ve exhausted every effort to continue operations.
UNC Health Rex is committed to improving health in the region. However, we believe this is the best recourse and it will allow UNC Health Rex to focus on our core mission of providing excellent medical care.
The Wakefield Wellness facility will be repurposed for clinical services at some point in the future. The Rex Outpatient Rehabilitation of Wakefield and Raleigh Orthopaedic clinics will remain open.
In addition, UNC Health Rex has growth plans for this market as demonstrated by our recently filed plans with state regulators to build a new, 50-bed community hospital nearby in Wake Forest.
Please note that Rex Wellness Center at Wakefield will not be enrolling any new members now through the last day of operations on November 15, 2024. Our locations in Raleigh, Cary and Knightdale are open for enrollment.
