Eye Surgery
If you or a loved one is experiencing cloudy vision due to cataracts, UNC REX offers surgical options as a method of treatment. Cataract surgery is generally a simple, outpatient procedure.
Traditional cataract surgery involves making a tiny incision in the eye to break the old, cloudy lens into pieces. Those pieces are then removed from the eye, and a replacement lens is inserted.
LenSx® Laser
In addition to this traditional approach, UNC REX now offers a bladeless procedure using laser technology to perform the same type of surgery. UNC REX is the only hospital in Wake County to offer cataract surgery using the LenSx® Laser. This innovative piece of equipment allows doctors to use a bladeless, computerized-controlled laser to plan and perform your surgery.
Benefits of the LenSx® Laser procedure include:
- Improved surgical precision
- Improved accuracy
- Bladeless corneal incisions
- Quick post-operative visual results
