Cardiac Rehabilitation
Recovery after a heart attack or heart surgery may include a cardiac rehabilitation program. You’ll benefit from supervised exercise, health education and one-on-one counseling to provide the tools you need to return to normal activities and understand how to maintain long-term wellness. UNC Health Rex offers in-person cardiac rehabilitation as well as virtual at-home rehabilitation through our partner Recora. Both programs are overseen by nurses and cardiac therapists who work as a team to provide you with care customized to your needs.
At-Home Cardiac Rehabilitation
UNC Health Rex offers cardiac rehabilitation that can be done from the comfort of home through a partnership with Recora. You can get all the same recovery benefits of in-person cardiac rehabilitation programs using wearable devices during live 1:1 sessions at home. Learn more about at-home cardiac rehab with Recora.
What to Expect From Rehabilitation
Join fellow patients for hour-long rehabilitation sessions three times a week for three months. Medical professionals will help you develop an exercise regimen, set fitness goals, and monitor your vital signs to protect your health.
Your personalized cardiac rehabilitation program is designed to help you:
- Reduce the risk of future heart problems
- Increase strength, energy and overall wellness
- Decrease stress
- Improve your sense of control over your well-being
- Learn how to achieve a healthy lifestyle
After completing rehabilitation, ask your care team about enrolling in the Rex Cardiac Maintenance program to stay fit long-term.
Certification Means Quality Care
The cardiac rehabilitation program at UNC Rex is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. That means you can trust us to provide qualified staff, tend to both your physical and psychosocial well-being, and follow strict guidelines to ensure your safety.
