Communications
We understand that it's important to stay in touch with friends and family members during your stay at UNC Health Rex. We also know the value and additional comfort that entertainment provides while you are away from home.
UNC Health Rex offers a variety of media resources for use by patients and their families.
In-Room Phones and Cell Phone Usage
Telephones are located in each patient room, with the exception of Critical/Intensive Care rooms.
To make calls inside the hospital (‘784’ prefix), just dial the last four digits of the number. To make a local call, dial ‘9’ followed by the number. Long distance calls must be charged to a personal calling card. Dial ‘0’ for a UNC Health Rex operator who can assist you in making long distance calls.
TDD (telecommunication device) and telephones equipped with volume amplifiers are available upon request.
Internet Access
Free wireless internet is available to patients and visitors.
The network name is ‘iloverex’. No password is needed.
Please note that this is a non-secure network, separate from the hospital’s secure internal network.
While using the public wifi network at UNC Health Rex, please browse responsibly. UNC Health Rex prohibits accessing, viewing, displaying, downloading, and/or copying offensive or inappropriate material while on the UNC Health Rex Internet network.
UNC Health Rex cannot provide or loan laptops or computers to visitors or patients. Please also be aware that our Information Technology Department cannot provide technical support for non-UNC Health Rex laptops and computers.
Televisions
Televisions are located in each patient room, with the exception of Critical/Intensive Care rooms.
Newspapers
Newspaper stands are located on each patient floor, in the elevator lobbies.
They are also located on the second floor near the main lobby and on the first floor near the Birth Center lobby.
The Audio Newspaper Service (radio reading service) is available through your patient television on channel 25.
Books and Magazines
The Korner Gift Shop, adjacent to the Patient Tower lobby, carries a selection of magazines and books for purchase.
Additionally, UNC Health Rex offers two libraries for use by patients and visitors.
