Rex Blood Services to Hold ‘Save Our Summer’ Blood Drive

Community event helps increase blood donations and raises awareness during slower summer months

WHAT

Rex Blood Services will host its 10th annual Save Our Summer Blood Drive on Friday, June 26, at the Rex Donor Center. The 12-hour blood drive is open to the community and will feature free food donated by local restaurants, T-shirts and giveaways from Launching Pad Trampoline Park and Smoothie King.

The Save Our Summer Blood Drive’s goal is to boost blood donations and engage the community during the summer months, when blood donations typically decline as regular donors go on vacation. At the same time, the need for blood remains steady or increases. About 41,000 units are needed every day in the U.S. for surgery, cancer and other patients, according to the American Association of Blood Banks. All blood types are needed.

WHO

Blood donors must be at least 17 years of age, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. For information on donor requirements or to sign up for the Save Our Summer Blood Drive, call (919) 784-4750.
