NC Hospital Association Honors Dale Jenkins with Trustee Merit Award
Dale Jenkins, chair of the UNC Health Care Board of Trustees, has been awarded the North Carolina Hospital Association’s 2016 Trustee Merit Award. The award is given each year to a hospital trustee who has made unique contributions to the individual’s hospital and participation in statewide activities.
Mr. Jenkins, CEO and director of Medical Mutual Holdings of North Carolina, was recognized July 14 at the NCHA Summer Membership Meeting in Pinehurst.

Pully, president of NCHA. “His leadership and vision as board chair at UNC will have a lasting legacy on the health of North Carolinians served by the UNC health system.”
A native of Shelby, North Carolina, Dale Jenkins is a graduate of Wake Forest University, where he earned his B.S. in Accounting in 1978. Mr. Jenkins spent the next 16 years working at Ernst and Young, where he rose to the rank of partner in less than a decade. He earned his license as a Certified Public Accountant in 1980 and attended the Kellogg School at Northwestern University and completed The Ernst & Young Partners’ Program in 1993. In 1994, he joined Medical Mutual, spending one year as COO before assuming his current role as the firm’s CEO. Under his leadership, the Raleigh-based firm has become one of the top 20 writers of professional liability insurance in the country. Additionally, the company owns MMIC Investment Holdings, Medical Security Insurance Company and the MMIC Agency.
Mr. Jenkins is currently chair of the Board of Trustees for UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill and was previously chair of the Board of Directors for UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh. An active business and community leader across the Triangle and the state, he currently serves on the Board of Directors of Capital Associated Industries, Investors Management Company, Medical Mutual Holdings, Nomacorc, PowerSecure International, the North Carolina Chamber, the University of North Carolina Health System and Wake Forest University.
In 2014, Mr. Jenkins was recognized by the Triangle Business Journal with the Health Care Heroes Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2015 he was awarded the UNC School of Medicine’s Distinguished Service Award.
