Andrew Zukowski Joins UNC REX Healthcare as Chief Financial Officer 

Andrew ZukowskiRALEIGH, N.C. – UNC REX Healthcare is proud to announce that Andrew Zukowski will join its executive team as chief financial officer. In his new role, Zukowski will help guide a growing health system with nearly $1 billion in annual revenue and more than 5,800 co-workers. Zukowski starts on Aug. 22.

“Andy brings an intelligent, caring leadership style that we know will fit well with our culture,” said UNC REX President Steve Burriss. “He has a successful track record of working collaboratively with leaders at a large academic medical center, physician networks and smaller community hospital partners. We look forward to learning from his expertise.”

Zukowski will report to Burriss, and work closely with Senior Vice President of Finance at UNC Health Care, Mark Miller.

Since July 2011, Zukowski has served as senior finance executive at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Mich. He oversaw all financial aspects of the Hospitals and Health Centers division, with a $2.5 billion operating budget. 

Zukowski was an accounting major at the University of Toledo and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He went on to earn a Master’s in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University.

Zukowski and his wife, Amanda, will relocate to Raleigh. They have two children.

 

Zukowski answered a few questions prior to beginning his new position:

Q.  What attracted you to UNC REX? 

A.  I was first attracted to UNC REX’s strong history, organizational values, culture and outstanding reputation in the community. Once on site, I felt an amazing sense of community and fit with all of the co-workers I had an opportunity to meet.

 

Q. What are your goals and priorities in your new role (or, how will you get to know the organization and its people as you get started?)?

A. I am honored to join a high-performing team and organization with a strong history of success. With that in mind, I plan on listening, developing relationships, rounding and learning the organization's culture to be in a position to contribute to team efforts that sustain and improve upon a strong foundation of success. Health care is going through significant change and transition and UNC Health Care and UNC REX are positioned very well for success. I’m excited to be part of the team moving forward.

 

Q. What are you most proud of in your career so far?

A. I am most proud of the relationships and team contributions that supported improving the health and well-being of the communities at the health care organizations I have been a part of during the past 15+ years.

 

Q. What are you most excited about when you move to Raleigh?

A. Raleigh is a vibrant area that while large has a very welcoming, and in some regards a small-town feel.  We felt a strong sense of fit and connection during our visits and look forward to developing new relationships in the community and exploring the region.

 

Q. What are your other interests -- family, hobbies, etc.?

A. My wife, Amanda, and two children ages 9 and 12, and I enjoy outdoor activities and traveling. I enjoy kayaking, competing in triathlons, dabbling in art and piano, and watching our kids’ sporting events.
