REX Blood Services to Hold ‘Save Our Summer’ Blood Drive on Friday, June 24

All blood types needed as donations decline during traditionally slower summer months

WHAT

REX Blood Services will host its 11th annual Save Our Summer Blood Drive on Friday, June 24, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the REX Donor Center. The 12-hour blood drive is open to the community and will feature free food donated by local restaurants, T-shirts and giveaways from Wet’n Wild Emerald Pointe and Smoothie King.

This time of year, blood donations typically decline. Schools are out, graduations have wrapped up and vacations have begun. That traditional slowdown is happening, even with the recent surge in interest following the Orlando shooting. At the same time, the need for blood remains steady or increases. About 41,000 units are needed every day in the U.S. for surgery, cancer and other patients, according to the American Association of Blood Banks. All blood types are needed.

WHO

Blood donors must be at least 17 years of age, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. For information on donor requirements or to make an appointment, call (919) 784-4750 or visit www.rexhealth.com/blood.
