Media Invited to Preview Web.com Tour’s Rex Hospital Open on April 13

Media Outlet foursomes to compete for Jim Connors Memorial Media Cup

WHAT

UNC REX Healthcare invites local media representatives to attend the Rex Hospital Open Media Day on Wednesday, April 13 to preview the upcoming Web.com Tour’s Rex Hospital Open.  Following brief remarks and presentations, media representatives are invited to compete in the Rex Hospital Open Media Day Golf Challenge.

WHO

Media Day speakers include Grayson Murray, a Raleigh native who competed in the 2010 Rex Hospital Open as a 16-year-old junior amateur – the second-youngest player ever to make the cut in a Web.com Tour event. Murray, now 22, turned professional in May 2015 and is playing on this year’s Web.com Tour. Other speakers and interview opportunities include Bill Calfee, Web.com Tour president; Steve Burriss, president of UNC REX Healthcare; Brian Krusoe, Rex Hospital Open tournament director; and tournament co-chairmen John McConnell and Larry Robbins.

WHY

The annual Media Day Golf Challenge is an excellent way for media to familiarize themselves with the tournament, golfers and charitable focus of the Rex Hospital Open before the actual event, while also providing the opportunity for a fun round of golf and competition. Each media outlet may enter one golf foursome that will battle for Triangle-area bragging rights, as well as the 2016 Jim Connors Memorial Media Cup – named to honor the well-known TWC News Sports Director, who passed away unexpectedly last year.

Professional golfers from around the world travel to TPC Wakefield Plantation every year to participate in the Web.com Tour’s Rex Hospital Open, taking place May 9-15. The tournament’s charitable efforts, coupled with its family and fan-friendly environment, have attracted thousands of golf fans over the years. Rex charity golf has raised more than $9 million for patients, programs and services at UNC REX. Funds raised this year will support the new North Carolina Heart & Vascular Hospital, an eight-story, 114-bed tower under construction at UNC REX’s main Raleigh campus.
