UNC REX Healthcare Receives Top Five-Star Rating from CMS for Quality of Care
CMS five-star rating places UNC REX in top 9 percent of hospitals nationwide
RALEIGH, N.C. – Feb. 10, 2020 – UNC REX Healthcare has achieved a top, five-star rating for quality of care from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. That puts UNC REX in the top 9 percent of hospitals nationwide.
“We are proud of the excellent care that UNC REX provides to our patients, and we recognize that patients and their families have choices of where they receive medical care,” said Ernie Bovio, president of UNC REX. “Our co-workers and physicians are committed to providing the best care, and ensuring that patients and their families choose UNC REX.”
UNC REX is one of 13 hospitals in North Carolina to receive five stars from CMS. That recognition follows the recent announcement that UNC REX was awarded another “A” grade on the Leapfrog Group’s hospital safety report card. UNC REX is the only hospital in North Carolina – and one of only 36 hospitals nationwide – to receive straight As since Leapfrog began grading hospitals for safety in 2012.
The CMS Hospital Compare system uses a variety of measures across seven areas of quality into a single star rating for each hospital, including mortality, timeliness of care, readmissions, patient experience and more. CMS provides the star ratings to help patients make decisions about where to get health care, and encourage hospitals to improve the quality of care they provide.
