Robotic Surgery

As a qualified surgical patient at UNC REX Hospital, you can get all the advantages of minimally invasive, advanced robotic surgery now that experienced physicians at the hospital are using the da Vinci® Surgical System. This minimally invasive technique helps reduce pain and trauma to the body, lessens blood loss, lowers risk of infection, shortens length of hospital stay and promotes quicker recovery with less scarring.

The number of robotic surgeries performed at UNC REX is among the highest in the region, with patients from surrounding states choosing to come to us. In addition, surgeons who operate at UNC REX have been recognized as some of the best robotic surgeons in the country. UNC REX Healthcare, one of the busiest robotic surgery centers in the Southeast, is designated as a training ground for teaching surgeons how to perform hysterectomies and other gynecological surgeries using the da Vinci® robot.

The designation as an Intuitive Surgical GYN Epicenter puts UNC REX in an elite category - the only Epicenter in North Carolina and one of only 21 nationwide.

Surgeons use the da Vinci® surgical system to perform complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions and with extreme precision. The incisions are much smaller and less traumatic than those associated with traditional surgical approaches. Robotic surgery puts a surgeon's hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art, technologically advanced platform. For the patient, it means less invasive procedures and faster recovery times.
