Pharmacy Residency Program

UNC Health Rex is a large community hospital located in Raleigh, North Carolina; we are part of the UNC Health System. We pride ourselves on our array of specialty services, including heart and vascular services, critical care, inpatient and outpatient oncology, ambulatory care, and the busiest surgical service department in the state of North Carolina. At UNC Health Rex, we are proud to be a certified stroke center, a Magnet-designated hospital, and to hold a Medicare Five Star rating and Leapfrog A status. Furthermore, we were named the #1 hospital in North Carolina by Business North Carolina in 2019.

The UNC Health Rex Pharmacy utilizes medication carousels and automated medication dispensing cabinets throughout the hospital. We have a newly renovated, state-of-the art central pharmacy, operating room satellite pharmacy, and multiple outpatient infusion center satellites. The decentralized clinical pharmacists have workstations on patient care units and participate in inter-disciplinary rounds. We have over 40 clinical pharmacists including clinical pharmacist practitioners (CPP) practicing in ambulatory care clinics. The clinical pharmacists at UNC Health Rex specialize in many areas including emergency medicine, cardiology, antimicrobial stewardship, critical care, and neonatal intensive care.

As a UNC Health Rex resident, you will be provided a strong residency experience that prepares you to be a skilled clinician and leader in practice. You will have opportunities to learn and practice in a variety of clinical and leadership rotations. Our affiliations with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences provide our residents the opportunity to teach and precept through layered learning.
